Hotel d'Angleterre – the luxury classic on Kongens Nytorv

Hotel d'Angleterre at Kongens Nytorv 34 has been the city's premier address for over 270 years and remains a 5-star property in 2026, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. The location is hard to top – the hotel sits at the head of Nyhavn, the colourful harbour just a few minutes' walk away (roughly 200–300 m). Kongens Nytorv metro station (lines M2, M3 and M4) is right outside the door.

The in-house restaurant Marchal is part of the hotel. It still holds a star in the MICHELIN Guide Denmark 2026, is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, and can be booked by phone on +45 33 12 00 94 or via the hotel website – also for non-residents. If you want to stay somewhere truly luxurious in Copenhagen, this is it, though expect the highest price bracket in this selection.

Villa Copenhagen – design hotel right by Central Station

Villa Copenhagen occupies the former main post office building next to Copenhagen Central Station (København H) and, as a 5-star hotel in 2026, has around 390 rooms and suites. The station location makes it a practical base – metro (M3/M4), suburban rail and intercity trains stop right next door, and Tivoli is just a short walk away.

The standout feature is the 25-metre rooftop pool: it's heated year-round to around 28–30°C using the building's waste heat, a sustainable touch, plus there's a pool bar and a sauna. That makes Villa Copenhagen one of the few places in the city where you can swim outdoors even during the Danish winter. The flip side of such a central, well-connected location is street noise – light sleepers should ask about room location when booking.

Hotel SP34 – boutique design in the Latin Quarter

Hotel SP34 on Sankt Peders Stræde 34 belongs to the Danish group Brøchner Hotels and is an urban design boutique hotel with 118 rooms across five floors, right in the Latin Quarter of Indre By. It's central but away from the busiest tourist routes – a good compromise for travellers who want to be close to the action without being right on the main drag.

A nice touch is the free daily Wine Hour from 17:00 to 18:00, plus a rooftop terrace, bar and several restaurants, and an organic breakfast buffet. At four stars, SP34 sits in the upper mid-range and suits travellers who prefer Scandinavian design and a relaxed atmosphere over a classic luxury feel.

Axel Guldsmeden – eco and wellness in Vesterbro

Axel Guldsmeden on Colbjørnsensgade 14 is the sustainability heavyweight of this selection – a 4-star eco boutique hotel with around 212 rooms in Vesterbro, just a few minutes from Central Station. Unlike the compact SP34, the Guldsmeden goes for a warm, Balinese-inspired style and a bigger wellness offering.

The spa includes a sauna, cold plunge, jacuzzi, steam bath and relaxation area, using organic products from iLoveEcoEssentials; four penthouse suites even have a private rooftop terrace with a hot tub. On sustainability the hotel is thorough – it's Green Key and Green Globe certified, was the first Guldsmeden hotel to carry Denmark's gold organic food label, and serves a fully organic signature breakfast with fair-trade ingredients. A good pick if eco credentials and relaxation matter more to you than a prime old-town location.

Wakeup Copenhagen – smart budget stays

Wakeup Copenhagen is the answer to Copenhagen's high price level – a budget design hotel with three locations in the city: Bernstorffsgade 35, Borgergade 9 and Carsten Niebuhrs Gade 11. Bernstorffsgade is particularly convenient – about 800 m, roughly a 10-minute walk, from Central Station, within 600 m of Tivoli and close to the shopping street Strøget.

In exchange for the low price tag, rooms are compact – standard categories run around 12–15 m², while the larger Wakeup Large category measures 15 m² and is designed for two adults plus a child. If you're out exploring all day and only need the room for sleeping, this gets you modern design in a central location at a fair price. The two station-adjacent properties (Bernstorffsgade, Carsten Niebuhrs Gade) sit right by København H, while the Borgergade property is close to Kongens Nytorv metro station.
