Trendy neighbourhood with the Meatpacking District
Once a working-class district behind Central Station, Vesterbro is now Copenhagen's hippest neighbourhood, home to the Meatpacking District (Kødbyen), cafes, bars and street life.
From red-light district to trendy quarter
Vesterbro sits right behind Central Station and was long Copenhagen's rough working-class and entertainment district. Today it's one of the city's most fashionable neighbourhoods: cafes, record shops, vintage stores and bars line streets like Istedgade and the charming Værnedamsvej, nicknamed "Little Paris" for its delicatessens and gourmet food shops.
The Meatpacking District
The heart of the area is Kødbyen (the Meatpacking District): the white halls of a former slaughterhouse now house restaurants, craft beer bars, galleries and clubs. Street food draws crowds by day, and by night the district turns into one of Copenhagen's liveliest places to go out.
Practical and urban
Vesterbro is a good choice for anyone who wants to stay central but a bit cheaper and more urban than the old town. Tivoli and Central Station are right next door, and the city centre is just a short walk away.
